Grant turned ONE!

Our sweet Mr. Grant Loyd Adams turned ONE on January 2nd.

Seems hard to believe that one year ago I was trying to remember how to take care of a newborn and now I'm snapping my fingers at him to stop pillaging through my garbage can. Where did the year go?

On January 4th, we had a SMALL party for him with family and a few friends at Cafe Rio. We had just come back into town from Austin and I knew I would not want to get my house all clean and ready to go for guests. So, Cafe Rio was the next best (or better) thing!

He was somewhat hesitant to dig into his cake - but once I stuck a finger full of frosting into his mouth for a taster, he was sold!

After binging for about one minute he pushed the plate away as if he were done.

Clearly he has more self control than his mother. Definitely takes after his father.

On his actual birthday, I realized that we should probably let him dig into a cupcake since his party wasn't for two days. So, we ran to Fry's and grabbed some cupcakes for the little guy to celebrate.

We got him this musical toy table for his present. He loves it.

And here he is with our new family tradition. Our birthday tree.

I decided since both kids have birthdays within 2 weeks of Christmas, that we would take down all our Christmas ornaments and put up birthday decorations. Then we put all of their wrapped birthday presents under the tree.

Here are some tidbits we love (or don't love) about Mr. Bubbers:
  • He still loves the bathroom. We have to keep a vigilant watch on shutting the bathroom doors at all times because he can sense if one is open and will make a sprinting crawl toward them. If I'm even seconds behind him he has already undone the entire toilet paper roll. And splashing in the toilet bowl water brings him unending happiness.
  • He finally got one top tooth that mostly came down during the week after Christmas. He is our cute mr. Snaggle tooth now. The other top tooth and bottom two teeth have made a slight appearance but are still shy. He loves to run his cute little tongue over them.
  • He started clapping over Christmas break and even copied me saying "yay" on his birthday.
  • He mimics a lot of the sounds that we make. If we are talking high or low or loud or soft he copies us with his baby babble.
  • He loves his pacifier and blanket for bed time.
  • His favorite place to play ( if the bathroom doors are shut) is in the trash cans and has started to use our tall kitchen trash can as a walker. He now loves to reach in and empty whatever contents he can reach onto my kitchen floor. UGH.
  • He is showing us that there is a big difference between boys and girls!! I have to keep a constant eye on him because he is always moving and always into something. Whew!! We never even had to baby proof our house for Emma bc she would not get into things like Grant.
  • He has been waving with his whole arm for about a month and just yesterday started waving (backwards) with just his hand.
  • He is not a picky eater but without teeth to chew he has not been a big fan of small chunks of cut up fruit and veggies. His favorite snacks are Cheerios and goldfish.
  • He knows no stranger and will happily go to anyone who wants to hold him. Except Santa Claus who he fears like the grim reaper.
  • He is still Mr. Smiley. Always has such a happy disposition. These new teeth have brought about a few more crying stints than normal, but even those are short lived after teething tablets and Tylenol are administered.
  • He continues to be a champion sleeper. Has been since the very beginning. He is already down to one nap, which I actually prefer bc then I can do fun outings with the kids in the mornings and then come home for naps and a long stretch where I can get things done around the house.
  • He constantly has bumps and bruises on his head because he seeks adventure and is frequently stuck in tight places or pulling things down on himself. My round brush fell on him from my bathroom sink and that really gave him a good cry.
  • He has figured out that if he presses hard enough on the cheerios they will fly off of his tray like rockets. He would spend all morning long watching them fly.
  • He has find his "private parts" and as soon as I take off his diaper he reaches down there and grabs around for just a second to make sure everything is still in place.
  • He is the MOST happy and content child in the world. People would have more children if all babies were like Grant.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANT!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Dear Grant,

You were born into our family just over a year ago and you have brought us so much happiness since that time. You are simply one of the happiest, easy going, lovable, smiley babies that I have ever known. You hardly ever cry or fuss and you have been sleeping and eating well since you were born. I could kiss your sweet little cheeks all day long. I prayed while pregnant with you that you would have a disposition like your Daddy, and it appears that you do. Thank goodness because Mom and Emma have enough sassyness for the whole world! :) You just adore your big sister. As soon as you see her in a room you light up and you go looking for her if she is not with you. It is with much thanks to the world of modern medicine that we have you in our family, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Now that you are a little older you are crawling everywhere and are constantly moving! We had no idea children could be so active because your sister was not like that. I have to constantly watch where you are and what you are doing because you are so curious and always into something. You love to point at my eyes and pull on my eyelashes when we are cuddling and I think it's endearing. Actually, everything you do is endearing because I just love you so much. I hope that you will always be a source of peace and happiness in our home.

I Love You so much,

Mom

And there's something magical about a smiley little boy that melts a mom's heart--even if they are into everything!! They're just so darn curious and excited by new adventures, they can't help it. Hard to stay mad at them. He is in the running for cutest baby in history! Love him! Happy birthday Grant!
