Only slightly less interesting, this blog is about the G-String on my violin. Never had much use for the other G-strings. :)
We had our very last Tempe Symphony Concert for this season on Monday evening. I am very sad to say that we take the summers off and will not resume rehearsals and concerts until September. I started playing the violin when I was 3 years old. I promised myself as a teenager that I would not let my violin grow dusty as I grew older. I played in the BYU orchestra as a freshman (1996/1997) and have not played in an orchestra since. When I heard about the Tempe Symphony auditions last summer, I knew this was my chance to resume my playing and keep my teenage promise. I practiced all summer long for the auditions and was thrilled when they accepted my stiff fingers and aged skills into the orchestra. I have had a wonderful time playing my instrument again and it has been more fulfilling than I ever could have imagined. Thank you to my mom who forced me to practice for 15 years and my dad who paid for 15 years of lessons. Thank you to Greg for spending "Daddy Daughter" time every Monday evening so that I can attend rehearsals.

I'm all about the aluminum foil trick. And yes, mine is trashy! My girls are 8 and 5 and we still have foil on the windows.
Tamz, I needn't tell you how hilarious you are!! Paul happened to be looking over my shoulder when I checked your blog. You should've heard him chuckle! I am envious of your violin talent. That is one instrument I have always fancied! And, you began at three? That means Melissa is 2 years behind!
Laura made me some cute two sided curtains for Melissa when her room was too bright. One side is thick navy blue polyester and the other side is a darling pink. I think there is a layer of white between to two to make the pink look pink and hide the dark color behind.
Oh, PLEEEEEZZZZZ.... you are called Auntie TRIXXXXXXie for a reason. Don't try and tell your "conservative" Blogger friends that you don't have use for the "other" G-Strings. [Have you read 2 Nephi 9:34 lately?] To quote our dear friends in Les Miserables, "you play a virgin in the light but....." (you know how how it ends). Fess up and let the world know what your "really" did to pay for those violin lessons and where you "really" met your "perfect" little husband..... ;^)
We miss you guys! How is our precious little niece? Anna asked me yesterday if she could go back on the big Cinderella plane to Arizona to see Baby Emma.
They boys have darkened shades in their room, which came with the house, and we have very light shades in our room. You have just SERIOUSLY tempted me to darken OUR bedroom windows with foil or SOMETHING Charlie won't sleep without being in the dark very well either... I don't know WHAT I am going to do when he grows out of his car seat... I probably should start getting him used to the pack-n-play in my room... Then Kade can't wake him up either.
And good for you for keeping up with your violin! Aside from one year in High School and my mission I have never NOT been in a choir until the past couple of years. I was so spoiled at UK, with their choirs being quite stellar, that moving here and being in the Great Falls Symphonic Choir has been disheartening. I quit after a couple of years because the joy of being in choir was gone. Singing music that I sang (and truly, truly hated, incidentally) in MIDDLE SCHOOL was enough to get me totally unenthused about the choir here. I look forward to moving to a bigger town with a bigger and better university (WITH A FINE ARTS PROGRAM) which tends to spur the arts on a little more. Because I DO miss choir... just not enough to rejoin the one here!
Oh, by the car-seat comment for Charlie-- when we're out and about, Charlie will sleep in his car seat with a heavy blanket that blocks the light out. BUT he rarely falls asleep if the blanket is not there. He likes the dark. ANd Charlie is such a light sleeper that if Kade even cracks open their bedroom door while Charlie is sleeping, Charlie wakes up and screams. Kade can't open our door (it sticks) so I am thinking a move in there might be prudent...
When I was looking into buying black out shades for the kids room, I didn't realize how expensive it was going to be. I opted for the foil route, too. Their bedroom window faces the backyard, so I figured anyone back there would be someone who already knew us and wouldn't think too badly of us. Maybe someday we can graduate to the real thing...
emma might have the cutest cheeks on the planet. and i'm so inspired to see you playing in orchestra--it's great to have something that is yours and brings a proactive spirit to your home. not that your kids would ever be couch potatoes...=)
Okay... you are so funny! Matt and I got a great laugh at this last post. By the way, thanks for the grapefruit!
Whoa there Tammy, no need to show us your panties. Man you are a sassy lady!!
I have enjoyed the violin music during this session of blog-watching and I look forward to hearing your new G-string. This is very exciting!
LOVE IT!! Bow-chic-a-bow-wow!!! You'll teach my kids the violin...right? :)
So, am I super trashy since I've never even heard of the foil trick? We just pinned up towels...and had to re pin them up every day because Sarah would pull them off. You should have seen all the holes in the walls! HA! That's the beauty of renting...I didn't care. :) What is Emma's sleep schedule...I'm gonna get sick if it's anything longer than 3 or 4 hours...Joshua just did his FIRST 8 hour spurt... and he turns ONE next month! I'm so horrible at this! My kids don't sleep until after I'm done nursing them. Yes, I've read all the books, and the truth is I'm just lazy...it's easier to nurse them to sleep than for me to listen to them wail. :) Once they are weened, it's better. Wow, I should just pick up the phone and call you! I'm blabbing now!
I think it is awesome that you are in the orchestra and have kept up your violin talent. I bet rehearsals are a much needed mommy time.
I have heard of a couple people doing tinfoil in their kids' rooms recently. I think I might try it. Hyrum wakes up as soon as the sun comes up and comes and tell me it is morning.

Thanks for the foil tip! Brooke wakes up with the sun in the morning and it is starting to be WAY TOO early. I would love it if she could be a little sleeping beauty as well!
