7 days. 168 hours. 10,080 minutes. 604,800 seconds.
Sometimes I really wonder what I do with my weeks. It feels like I am always busy, but at the end of the day, I have nothing to show for it. Strange how that works.
Yesterday we took advantage of the Martin Luther King holiday and the GORGEOUS Arizona weather and went on a "hike". I use that term very loosely, because it was more of a "meander" through the mountains at a very relaxed pace. It was fun anyway and we were BASKING in the 80 degree climate. How could I hate a state so much in one season and love it as intensely in another? Anyway, here is the gang at the beginning of the hike. JJ, her neighbor friend Alexander, Emma in her FANCY hiking backpack, Greg and Aunt Laura. Good times.
Thanks to my dear friend Brooke for sending this darling outfit for her first birthday!
While giving a "hot water bath" (I kid you not, this is what the canning book calls it) to my tomatoes, I opened the pressure canner without realizing it had pressure in it. It scalded the entire front of my body. Burning on the stomach and breasts? Not a fun experience. I know I should have checked the pressure FIRST, but the "instruction book" told me there would be no pressure, and I STUPIDLY believed it. I tell you, I am not cut out to be domestic. Would have been easier to buy them at the store. In any case, I now have bottled tomatoes. So, if the world implodes today, come to me for your Vitamin C, Alkali Power and Lycopene.
More fun and joy taking care of this little gem. She is getting VERY mobile and I can barely keep up. She's not interested in walking yet, which is A-O-K with me. She has started copying our words and now says "baby", "uh-oh" and "no,no,no" VERY clearly.
I'm also down 4.2 pounds over the last 2 weeks. Weight watchers is treating me well. I would really love to see the weight come of quicker. But, I know slow and steady is healthier for my body and will likely allow me to keep it off. I've been exercising every day (I used to be a 3x/week girl) and I have really been trying to cram in those fruits and veggies. Greg is down 4.4 pounds. It is really nice to have a support through all of this.

OUCH! I hope you are okay. And happy birthday, Emma. And way to go on losing 4.2 pounds!
Congrats on the weight loss!
One thing I would suggest with the weaning process is only do one at a time. Wean her first of formula, then work on the bottle transitions. At least that is what worked for our kids. Good luck!
80 degrees?!?! Yeah, yeah--rub it in. Today, it's a whopping 12 degrees and I can't tell you the last time I saw blue sky.
Also, about the bottles--I really like the Avent system because they have sippy cups with the different spouts--a bottle spout and then various sippy cup spouts depending on their age-- so it's like she's still using her same cup, but you just change the spout. Or, you could try a Nuby sippy cup which has a soft silicone spout--similar to a bottle. Good luck!
4.2 lbs. is AWESOME. You go girl! (Unless you watch the Biggest Loser show like me and you begin to think losing 15 lbs. in one week is normal.)
Kind of surprising (to me at least) is that milk, yogurt, and cheese are high in protein. Also, eggs and peanut butter, but I know people worry about allergies with those. Kyla is so-so about meat, but I keep trying. Good luck! And good luck with the weaning, I know that can be hard.
Glad you had a fun MLK day. Iam sorry about the scalding! Hooray on the weight loss and I LOVE the cute pictures of Emma. As for weaning... I think that my brain disposed of that information b/c I can't remember how I did it with Ben. Good Luck!
you have totally inspired me to ww it up and lose this baby weight once and for all. work it out girl!
Scary about the scalding! OUCH! Hope you're OK. I'm always impressed with your domesticity, and you inspire me to be better! :) Congrats on losing the weight. I've been working out 5 times a week, and I've gained a few pounds. What's up with that??
Ok, Tammy, this could turn into a book but I will try to keep it short. We 'wean' from formula to whole milk (a good source of protein) first. Then, with Noah, I didn't try to get rid of the bottle I just started offering the sippy cup for everything except his bottles of milk. I have been trying to remember when he got just bottles of milk for my own reference with Ian but it is still a little blurry. I also opted for the Nuby sippy cups because of the soft nipple part. Noah hated the hard plastic ones. The only con with those turned out the be they were quite chewable. This wasn't an immediate problem but when it was, it took me a long time to get him switched to a hard plastic sippy. I have tried to 'start as I mean to go' with Ian and a hard topped sippy but so far he hasn't figured it out yet. So, we are still using the bottle (already switched to whole milk even though he won't be one till the 28th:) and I offer the sippy cup at all feeding times. We'll see how it goes but I don't feel any need to rush it or push it. One final thought, if you get to that do or die point giving them their options and not giving in seems to work well for my kids. 'You are thirsty? This is what I have for you.'
Good luck!
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear you were burnt! That sounds terrible. I hope you're okay. Congrats on WW!
Ouch...
My 2 cents on weaning. The nubby is great, but can become just as much problem as the bottle, so be careful. I did like the Avent sippys. Start with all drinks expept milk and then slowly work in a few milk feedings (making your evening feeding the last to go). One of my kids, we had to do cold turkey. We went on a trip and the bottle did not come home with us... it was painful, but they did not die! Good luck, just wait until she is a teen it gets even more fun!
Wow, Emma's one! What a jam packed year that first year of life is! She's so beautiful. Connor weaned himself from the bottle around one by being around an older child who drank from a sippy cup. I think he learned by watching the little boy and I knew he was ready when Connor kept stealing the sippy from him and taking a drag himself. Good luck!
I'm so sorry you got scalded, it hurt ME as I read your words! OUCH! Emma is sure growing up Ms. Tammy, and is so darn cute! I think I'd LOVE to live in Arizona, yes I do!
Wow she is 1! Time flies. What a big girl she is.
We have that same type of attic space above our garage, and have to only put things there that won't freeze or melt. So far that's outgrown baby clothes and a select few Christmas things. :)
