2009 Christmas in Review

TOP CHRISTMAS MEMORIES FROM OUR CHRISTMAS SEASON 2009

#1 - My brother Chuck called to announce his engagement to Emily Woods!! We are so excited for them. Emily is an impressive woman and a perfect match for our Chucky. They will get married in Kentucky over Memorial Day Weekend.

#2 - Our December 22nd Christmas party with the Lorenzen Family. We ate a yummy dinner together, opened presents and made a gingerbread house and train. We love these guys and enjoyed our holiday get together.

#3 - Our December 23rd Family Dinner at my Grandparents home. My grandparents have had a traditional Christmas Dinner by candlelight for many years. This year, we gathered together the cousins that live in town and made the meal for my Grandma and Grandpa Hancock.

#4 - The family nativity acted out after the candlelight dinner by all of the younger great-grandchildren. Mary was played by the budding actress Sydney and we brought ethnic diversity to our evening with our African American baby Jesus. Greg read from Luke 2 and the kids did a wonderful job. After Emma was done throwing her tantrum about the head band to keep her towel in place, she did pretty well.

#5 - Flying to Austin, Texas on Christmas Eve to visit Jame, Gina, Anna and Isaac. Our flight was open, so Emma got her own seat and all was well in the world of flying. We were SO EXCITED to get there and could hardly contain ourselves. Gina had prepared a wonderful meal with their friends from the ward... so we started our holiday traveling with a lot of laughs and full bellies.

#6 - Setting out toys for the three children as Santa. What a magical time. I tried to keep it small for Emma because she is still so young and doesn't really understand yet. Somehow, I still had two suitcases full of gifts.

#7 - Christmas morning with the kids. Anna and Emma wore matching pajamas from Grammie Lou and were so excited to run out to the living room to see all their toys. Anna was the most amazing cousin to Emma. She was so kind and loving and attentive. Emma followed her around like a little puppy and Anna never got frustrated. She shared all of her toys and made Emma so happy.

#8 - All that time and money spent on Christmas gifts and what was Emma's favorite gift? THREE STUPID TUBES OF CHAP STICK. She ignored everything else that day. No lie. She kept those three little tubes in her grubby little paws ALL DAY and applied generously at least 550 times. It was incredulous and hilarious. Frustrating and entertaining. The other cousins played all day with their new toys and Emma wandered around them keeping her lips moist. Seriously?

(I made her some home made beans bags with Aunt Corinda.)

#9 - Our day adventure to Wimberley, Texas. Such a lovely, quaint little town close to Austin. The weather was nice and we enjoyed wandering the little shops and an amazing lunch at the "Leaning Pear". This is where Emma first learned the phrase, "Merry Christmas Ya'll" - which she screamed at the top of her lungs throughout the rest of the trip. A true Texan at heart. :)

#10 - Eating too much wonderful food and resulting in many sugar "comas". Jamie and Gina were the most wonderful hosts feeding us so much fantastic cuisine and keeping us up too late laughing too hard. We just LOVE visiting them in Texas and it made for the most marvelous Christmas!
#11 - Digging through my suitcase for my church shoes, only to realize I had packed in the dark and had one brown shoe and one black shoe. Yes folks, I still went to church and I wore the shoes just as you see in the picture. Classy for sure!

#12 - A chilly day at an Austin park with cousins. We have too much Arizona blood and thought it was a lovely idea to play at the park. Turns out Austin is not as warm as Phoenix this time of year. We had fun, but froze our little buns off.

#13 - Came home from Texas, unpacked and washed clothes. Then promptly repacked everything for a SUPER trip to Greer, Arizona with friends to celebrate the New Year. Emma's first time in Snow!! Unfortunately, she was sick and did not enjoy herself.

#14 - Building my first snowman since 1994.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday season as much as we enjoyed ours!! We had such a great time, I'm getting a little depressed thinking about taking the decorations down. It just seems so drastic to rip away all of my happy 2009 holiday memories in one day.

Such fun! Don't you just love the holidays?! I gained a few extra pounds because I loved it so much. :) Good thing I didn't go to Jamie and Gina's!! Sounds like it was such a blast there though. That's a party that would be fun to join. So sad we missed the Greer festivities, but it turned out to be a good decision.

All the pictures are so so cute, and the shoe mix-up made me laugh so hard. Cheers to you for being cool about it...I'm so vain I probably would have stayed home or insisted Porter break the Sabbath to find me a matching pair!! :)

I love Emma's striped tights! Too cute! And I'm proud of you for wearing your mismatched shoes. When I saw the first picture from the back I was thinking, "Wow! Brave!" but then I saw that they look quite similar from the front. Great story.

What a post! I'm so happy for Chuck. Hard to believe he is old enough to tie the knot! I loved how Emma didn't put her chapstick down all day because Ellie did the same thing! Her baby in the stroller is so cute. And really...you wore 2 different shoes to church? At least they looked similar. You are too funny!

Emma I love me some LipSmackers too! Be careful, Trent can attest to the fact that they can be very addicting. I'm probably applying 550 times a day as well.

Love all the pics! Where's Emma's brown velour tracksuit? You look hot Tammy!

I am not gonna lie when i say I am SUPER jealous of two things. 1) you got to spend time with Gina and Jamie, soo fun, not fair. And 2) you totally got to go to Greer, greatest place ever! And spend it with such fun people! Good for you for having a fantastical Christmas season! So glad you finally updated, I've totally been waiting for this update, no kidding.

Oh yeah, and you totally rock my world that you wore two different shoes to church. I love you for being cool enough to do that! So funny!

Love the shoes! I used to do that all the time on my early morning temple shift. You are in good company - I think it's a sign of genius. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time! Loved the snowman!

I'm glad I finally logged on to see how your holidays were. Looks like a blast! I would love to get Aliya some chap stick as she is likewise obsessed, but she eats chunks of it. So instead a spends a few minutes every day trying to rescue mine from her. Any suggestions?
