"When one door closes, another opens." - Alexander Graham Bell

You'll have to disregard my last post, because it appears that my sabbatical leave has been cut short and I will get to teach at South Mountain Community College after all.
I got a call this afternoon from the Department Chair, informing me that a teacher had cancelled last minute and they were in desperate need of a teacher for two classes beginning next week. The class is called "Creating College Success" and is geared toward entering freshman to teach them basic study skills and effective study habits. Although it's not social work, it is still college teaching, my foot is in the door, and I am THRILLED!!
I will teach two sections of the same class. They will be in the afternoons on Tuesday and Thursday. The class is right in the middle of Emma's naps and so I'll be putting Emma down to sleep at JJ's and will pay her to keep an eye on my sleeping angel. It will work out PERFECT. I don't miss any fun play time with Emma and I still get to teach and make a little extra cash. "Asics" Running Shoes... HERE I COME!!! The first purchase I will make with my newly acquired wealth. :)
I feel so blessed and know that the Lord is looking out for me. Although seemingly small, this was important to me, and I know it is important to Him. I am so grateful.
Now I best get to cramming. I have to plan an entire course in 3 days. Talk about INeffective study habits. Nice example, huh? YIKES.

Congrats! Kinda hard to believe you will be teaching college freshmen. Weren't we just there? Time has gone too fast! I wish I could see you in action.
Wow. I may be cheesy here, but reading that story really just reminded me that the Lord is aware of us all, and I almost got emotional. What an amazing way of showing you that He hadn't forgotten about you. Thanks for sharing that. I am so happy you'll be a college teacher after all!!! I am sad that the members of the Ladies' Thursday Evening Potato Peel Book Club Society won't be able to all register for your evening class after all. Boo. We would have studied really hard and definitely not spent class time eating pita chips and talking about birth stories.... :) There's always next year...
Jeff's study advice: Don't be stupid.
I might possibly be able to help you. I took that course my Freshman year and I think that I was even a T.A. for the course (Either that or I took the class twice:) It is possible that I may have saved some of the paperwork.(Yes, I might have papers saved from my college years but you never know when they are going to come in handy!)
Very cool! They are lucky to have you. I'm happy to watch Emma if you need it!
Hip Hip Hooray! I'm so excited for you. You and Jason will be able to swap stores because he is teaching at UOP starting in Feb. Just like Lana was saying, I'm sad that I can't sign up for your class because I know you will be a great teacher. Good luck!
Hey Tam, this is the class I taught at ASU as a grad assistant. Want any syllabi? I'm so excited for you!
That is awesome. I had the same thought as Lana. It's always amazing to me how Heavenly Father makes things happen. Congrats. I bet your classes will be awesome!
oh man shoot Tammy!!! this sounds quite familiar to what they put me through too! Oh gees louise... just remember that your entertaining skills are completely spontaneous and spectacular. :) BEST of luck! Go get 'em.
That is so awesome! Yay for you! Those kids will be so lucky to have you!!
That's so awesome! Good luck on your first day...wait did you already have it? Yikes, I should have read more closely. I would have loved to have had you as one of my first teachers at college 12 long years ago. You're going to make a world of difference for so many students! Yay!
