These past weeks however, have proven to be weeks full of patience lessons.
I have to exercise patience as I wait for our IVF results. These last few days have literally inched by for me. Will Thursday ever come?
I have to exercise patience as I follow doctor's orders to "take it easy" with no exercise, no heavy cleaning, and no lifting of objects over 5 pounds. UGH. It really is harder than it sounds. Especially for a busy body like me. And especially with a 33 pound toddler who has a mind of her own.
So instead of eating lunch, she does this...
Thank goodness for my sweet, wonderful, most helpful Mother who came for 10 whole days to help my pitiful plight. I am forever indebted to her hard work helping us through this experience. I needed her care as a child and I needed her care as an adult. Do we ever cease needing the love and attention of Mothers?
But I digress... back to my patience lessons.
I exercised patience when our big box television died (thank you Leavitts! we loved it thoroughly for 3 years), on the ONE day I was not supposed to move. Really? Greg and I looked briefly for a new television online, only to discover that big box television are evidently outdated and archaic. Like, they don't even sell them in stores anymore. This was news to me. I have been known to "live in the past" a little longer than most (i.e. hotmail account, VHS, poofy bangs) - but I'm just not ready to spend the money on a flat screen yet.
Luckily, our patience was rewarded and we got yet another big bulky television for FREE from JJ and Zac. Nicest TV we've ever owned. Maybe by the time this one dies, we'll actually join the land of the living and buy a television without a 2 foot back side. Until then...
The stars aligned today, and I found the "Chipmunk Adventure" (circa 1987) at Red Box. Emma loves the Chipmunks and my childhood was shaped by watching this movie repeatedly. So, I blew the $1 and rented the movie.
At one point in the movie, the Chippettes sing a "touching song" to a baby penguin who was cruelly ripped away from it's mother. Emma was captivated. But, when I looked closer, I saw HUGE alligator tears rolling down her precious little cheeks. When I asked her what was wrong she replied, "I so sad for penguin. Penguin misses his Mommy." She then ran into my arms and began sobbing, muttering muffled phrases of "so sad" and "penguin Mommy". I then reassured her that the penguin would indeed find it's mother.
It was one of the cutest/saddest moments of her little life. How could she become so emotionally involved in a cartoon at such a young age? Especially with my genes. I'm not a movie crier.
For those of you that would like to relive a childhood cartoon or cry big alligator tears yourself, you may view the referenced song below...
Wish patience weren't a virtue, because I've still got a long way to go.

Wow. No lifting of the toddler. HARD!! Thanks for the update. I've been thinking about you every day. Come on Thursday, get here already!
I am right there with ya on the patience thing. I have a LONG way to go. You are amazing to do what you are doing. Emma is lucky to have you as her Mother!
Best movie!! Can't wait to hear the news tomorrow.
wow, that was a heartbreaker! The video and your post are sweet little tributes to being a mother.
And we LOVED Emma singing in the last video by the way! Rowan clapped and giggled.
We will be patient to hear what happens tomorrow too!
Oh my gosh, how sweet is Emma? I can't believe she understood enough to be so "moved" by the situation. So cute!
Ok, I'm agonizing for you over here, not being able to pick the kid up and get done what you need to. Wow! That IS a tough one. But, I guess, if you get the desired results in the end, it's ALL worth it.
Oh, and Maggie has those same cute jammies with the brown flowered pants. I love them, she however, not so much.
Hang in there friend, we're a mere 24 hours away.
Can't wait to hear either! Hang in there!
I put on my calendar what day you would find out and it's been a LONG few weeks for me too. :) Hang in there. Penguin story=too cute!
I knew right off the bat Emma didn't get your movie genes because first and foremost she was AWAKE while watching it!!!! You might just be a movie crier, but you'll never know because you're always fast asleep by the time the penguin is torn away from its mother. :)
You know I love you just the way you are. :) And....Do you mean this Thursday? I thought it was next Tuesday. Patience is DEFINITELY NOT a virtue. More like a torture device.
We were just laughing about how Izzy sobbed the first time she listed to Peter and the Wolf when the wolf ate the duck. There have been other times in books when a cat dies, etc. So tough! Hang in there. We're praying for you!
Send Emma over to my house. We own the chipmunk movie and I cry about everything :)
Love you!
I think patience is a challenge for everyone-I have been checking your blog every day even though I know it's not Thursday yet:) And I must like the past (or am too cheap) because I still have a hotmail account and a big box tv too!
Okay, that chipmunk movie was a bit emotionally draining! Just the clip I saw...it's no wonder she was bawling. That was emotional manipulation for sure!
Can't wait to hear...here's hoping your hair look fabulous too. :) wink wink.
Ok, I've already commented, and I'm STILL just as excited for you. Now I'm here to say, I've left you an award on my blog. Go have a looksy. 'Cause you KNOW I love you.
Wow, I can't believe that Emma was able to have an emotional experience like that for a penguin at such a young age. Too bad our kiddos don't understand enough of what WE go through to be more sympathetic! :) Hang in there with all that over-stimulation crap. We love you!
HAHAHAHA!!! That is the best video EVER!! No wonder Emma cried...those Chippettes sound awful! JK, it must just be the big droppy puppy dog eyes. What a sap! You gotta toughen that kid up with some of your sarcasm! Too much Greg in her!
